Sharon 8th Grade Travel C Team Wins Championship
Despite a rough 2-10 regular season record, the Sharon 8th Grade Boys C Travel Team rolled over its opponents in the playoffs to take the Divisional Championship. The Eagle C's suffered many close losses, twice succumbing in overtime. Then came the playoffs and the battle tested team was determined to show the league what it was made of. Playing as the 9th seed in a 10 team bracket, the Eagles began their title run by defeating Newton in the first round, 53-47. Next came Sudbury, the number one seed. The bracket-busting Sharon team dispatched them 44-35. In the final four, the Eagles made short work of Dedham, winning 60-30 to advance to the championship game against Needham at Mass Premier Courts on March 15. Despite trailing by one point at halftime, the Eagles turned up the heat with timely shooting and tenacious defense and won 63-48 to take their divisional championship. The players: Steven Kessler, Tim Peng, Adam Banks, Adam Gray, Brahm Gardner, Peter Gray, David Goodman, Mike Russo, Matt Russo, Michael Cooper, Dan Tarlin, Solomon Tarlin, Graeme Ownjazayeri. The team was coached by Dan Tarlin, Mike Russo and Peter Gray.

Grace Rehnquist Tops 1,000 Points in Win Against Attleboro
The bleachers were packed with students, parents, friends and family. Five boys even bared their chest for the event, spelling out G-R-A-C-E in gold body paint and screaming her name every time Sharon senior Grace Rehnquist touched the ball. Needing 21 points to reach 1,000 points in her varsity basketball career, Grace drained three-pointers (seven for the game), drove the lane for tough layups and calmly tossed free throws on her way to a quick 22 points that put her over the top shortly after halftime. She is only the seventh player in Sharon's history to score more than 1,000 points. The game was stopped as Grace collected a bouquet of flowers and balloons, hugging her family and teammates as the boys in the stands serenaded her with a boisterous rendition of Amazing Grace. She went on to lead the Eagles to a hard-fought 66-57 victory, scoring 35 points (1,014 and counting) to cap a memorable night at Sharon High.

MetroWest Zero-Tolerance Policy
This one's so great, we couldn't wait for the official language to post it. All of Sharon Travel is now playing in the MetroWest League. This year, they have instituted a "zero-tolerance" policy on the behavior of players, coaches, officials... and parents and spectators. Coaches and players who don't demonstrate restraint or good sportsmanship during the game will, as always, be assessed a technical foul. Now spectators' boorish behavior can cost their team a technical as well. Plus, they'll be thrown out of the gym. Bravo. So, you can cheer, clap, be positive, and be supportive. Remember the motto: players play, coaches coach, (officials officiate) and parents cheer. Or else.

Sharon Travel Playing Time Guidelines
The SBA Board has worked out playing time guidelines for Sharon's travel players. Travel ain't rec, so expect playing time to be apportioned according to skill, the flow of the game, practice attendance, and general player behavior. Players will, however, get into each half of every game. See the official guidelines here.

Parents Cheer. Coaches Coach. Players Play.
Basketball's a great game. Anyone can play and the kids love to run the court and shoot the ball. Just remember the Code, folks. The Sharon Basketball Code of Conduct, that is. They're spelled out here, but it all boils down to this: parents cheer, coaches coach, and players play. If you have a problem with a coach or disagree with an official's call, keep it to yourself (and away from the kids). Sleep on it, or just wait for a more appropriate time to voice your opinion. Trust the coach. Respect the officials. Love your kids.
